Started in 2015 in the premises of the bookstore, ABSU in its fifth year promises to be grandiose, varied and a fitting tribute to the language of the city. The dates for this year are 22, 23 and 24 November 2019. The festival venue would be Rabindra Bharati Museum (Jorasanko).
Sweet, lilting, evocative, alliterative and much more—Bangla is called many names by its speakers and its lovers. The seventh most spoken language in the world has etched its own place in the calendar on 21st February, marking it as Bhasha Diwas, celebrating the different hues of the literature, music and art created in it.
While Bengalis love their Bangla literature, music and art, they also love their festivals: it is no coincidence that Bengalis celebrate everything with much love and enthusiasm. The oldest bookstore in the city of Kolkata, Oxford Bookstore, marries these great loves of Bengalis—literature, music, art and festival—in its one of a kind festival, the Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob (ABSU).
